4 Ways to Optimize Your Pinterest Profile for More Traffic (and one is NEW!)

Pinterest can be a powerful marketing tool for service-based businesses if it’s used correctly. Learn how your profile on Pinterest can be a powerful marketing tool for service-based businesses. Let’s go over what you should include and how it will help grow your business!

1 | PROFILE IMAGE

Pinterest is a popular site where people can share ideas and images on a variety of topics. One important part of Pinterest is the profile image. This image is what will appear next to all of your pins, and it’s a great way to show off your personality.

When choosing a Pinterest profile image, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, choose an image that represents you and your brand. it might be a headshot or a picture of you doing what you do. Second, make sure the image is high quality and clear. Pinterest users are visual people, so they’ll appreciate a well-crafted image taken in good light.

Third, Use your Instagram photo as people (in that client journey of know, like, and trust) will go to Instagram to confirm you are a real person and to learn more about you.  Pinterest is about sharing ideas, and ways to better your life, and Instagram is to share about yourself as well as your knowledge.  It’s a great way to instill implied trust when they find you from your image.

2 | PROFILE NAME

Pinterest is a platform with a lot of potential!  After all, it’s essentially one big search engine. And like any good search engine, Pinterest lets you search for specific keywords. That’s why it’s important to choose your Pinterest profile name carefully.

After all, you want people to be able to find you when they’re searching for something specific. So if you want to book likes from Pinterest, make sure to choose a profile name that includes a keyword or two. It’ll make it that much easier for people to find you – and to start following your boards.

So as an example, my wedding photography business name is Jen Vazquez Photography, but I use California Wedding + Branding Photographer as my name on Pinterest so that it’s found by my ideal clients.

3 | PROFILE COVER

If you want to attract your ideal client, you should personalize your profile to stand out from others in your industry. First, in order to customize your Pinterest profile cover, you must have a Pinterest business account

When choosing an image, some tips to remember:

  • Image size:  The image must be at least 800 pixels wide x 450 pixels tall. Choosing a horizontal image with a 16:9 aspect ratio is recommended.
  • Also, consider using an image that shares who you serve.  As an example, if you are a wedding photographer, choose an image of a bride and groom.  Extra points if you upload a photo that includes you photographing that bride a groom or you working with a client if you are a coach.  That image will show in an instant who you are and who you serve.

To add the image, here are the steps:

  1. Log into your Pinterest business account
  2. Click your profile picture in the top-right corner of the screen
  3. Click
  4. the edit icon
  5.  at the bottom-right corner of your profile cover
  6. Click Upload from your computer
  7. Choose an image
  8. Crop or pan your image to fit the 16:9 ratio
  9. Click Save

4 | PROFILE BIO

As a Pinterest expert, I know the importance of crafting a compelling business bio that really captures the essence of your brand.

Whether you’re a graphic designer, a wedding pro, or a social media strategist, your Pinterest bio should reflect your mission and expertise while incorporating strategic keywords that Pinterest users are likely to be searching for.

To do this effectively, it’s best to be concise and focus on the most important information. Consider your Pinterest Profile as a billboard that tells people who you serve and what transformation you provide.

If you want to take your Pinterest game to the next level, just follow these simple guidelines for crafting an effective business bio:

  1. Include what transformation you provide to your clients
  2. Include the type of people you help
  3. Include a free lead magnet
  4. Bonus: Include a lead magnet link

Here are a couple amazing examples:

NEW | HIGHLIGHTS ON PROFILE

Another way to personalize your profile is through highlights. You can group your published Idea Pins into a highlight at the top of your profile. You can add up to 20 Idea Pins to a highlight and you can have up to 6 highlights on your profile.

To create a highlight, you’ll need a business account and you must have published Idea Pins. You’ll need to have at least one Idea Pin on your profile.

NOTE: At this time, you can only create profile highlights on your iOS or Android device on the Pinterest App.

Don’t forget to pin it!

7 Places to Use Keywords on Pinterest

7 places to use keywords on Pinterest by Jen Vazquez Pinterest marketing expert

Keywords are the key to successfully marketing your business on Pinterest.  Today I’m sharing all of the places you can and should be using keywords on Pinterest.

As a gift, I’m sharing my free Masterclass because I’m sharing all my secrets on how to research keywords for YOUR business.

You’ll need to use your Pinterest keywords on:

Your profile name

Choose the main keywords that describe your content or your business the best.

Your profile description

Choose multiple keywords to describe what you do. Make sure to write sentences, keyword stuffing is never a good option.

Your board title

Use main keywords or two or three keywords to name your boards. Do not use cute board names! Board names are searchable. It means that the keywords help people find your boards. It is also one of the places Pinterest uses to determine what your content is about.

Your board descriptions

You can use some long-tail keywords in your descriptions to let people know (and Pinterest) what they can find on the board. Use the descriptions, as Pinterest also uses them to retrieve information about your content.

Your Pin titles

Pin titles are important for Pinterest to categorize your content so use keywords related to your blog there.

Your Pin descriptions

Same as pin titles, Pinterest uses descriptions to understand what your pin is about. That’s why you want to make sure you’re using relevant keywords there.

Your Pin overlay

Pinterest can analyze your image. Adding a keyword on your Pin overlay will increase the confidence level of your pin when it comes to that keyword for Pinterest.

2022 Wedding Trends according to Pinterest.

Today, Pinterest published this blog “Wedding season is back and Pinterest is inspiring a new look to walk down the aisle”.

Let’s hit the highlights.  We all know that people on Pinterest “Pinners” look to Pinterest for life’s biggest moments.  They want to see inspiration to help them plan for the future.

Pinterest has visual discovery capability which helps because we all know that you can’t always describe what you’re looking for in words.  it often leads to things you didn’t even think about.

Now 2022 Wedding Season is fast approaching (I know since I’ve been a wedding photographer since 2009 and the invention of Pinterest).  So it goes without saying that Pinners have already been searching for all things wedding related from wedding planning advice, to wedding themes, to wedding flowers and (of course) wedding poses.

There’s already been a lot of talk about how BIG this year’s wedding season is going to be.  It’s predicted to be THE BUSIEST on record.  As you know with all of the cancellations in 2020 and 2021, couples are making up for missing a canceled wedding or having big bashes to make up for the tiny small weddings they didn’t really want.

Pinterest is obviously one of the first stops a couple who gets engaged goes to.  In service to all those couples, Pinterest gathered all of the TOP TRENDS to help Pinners get ready for this wedding season.

Whether you’re searching for what to wear as a wedding guest, to celebrate cultural traditions, or to plan an entire color scheme for your wedding, Pinterest has is the past taken care of people and this year is no different.

Gen Z is approaching weddings with a traditional flare and also non-traditional.  Here are some stats Pinterest shared:

Pinterest Audit: Annual Spring Cleaning

Spring time is known for “spring cleaning”.  So it’s definitely that time of year to clean up your Pinterest Profile.

I recommend to my clients to do spring cleaning once a year or even every six months to ensure that their Pinterest Profile is current for your current business goals.

As entrepreneurs, we can often change your business goal or focus.  If you are launching a service, focus your profile description on that launch.

STEP 1:  PINTEREST PROFILE AUDIT AND UPDATE

Question to ask yourself to update:

  • Are you using the image that you use on Instagram? People often go to IG to confirm you are a real business so make it easy for them to know it’s you!
  • Have you used keyword(s) in your name?
  • Does your Pinterest profile description share what problem you solve for clients?
  • Make sure to use keywords throughout.

PRO TIP: You can no longer use a video at the top of your header. Pinterest is removing the ability for them to be seen or played, so just use a static image.

STEP 2:  PINTEREST BOARD AUDIT AND UPDATE

This whole process gets a lot easier if you make a google spreadsheet to list all your boards in alpha order.  Pinterest looks at your profile as a whole so it looks at your name, bio name, a profile description, boards, and pins to know who to share your content with.

So review your boards and see if a holistic look tells people what you do in business.

Question to ask yourself to update:

  • Do your board titles have keywords and or cutsie titles? Including keywords will help your ideal clients to find you on Pinterest.
  • Do you have two or three boards about what you focus on? (as an example, I have a board called “wedding planning advice” and “wedding planning tips” with the same content on both.  This helps to show your content to multiple people depending upon what they type in that search bar.
  • Look for any boards that are missing.
  • Secret any personal boards
  • Secret any boards that don’t fit your business anymore
  • Do you have descriptions for every board? Describing what people will find on that board using keywords and ending with your website (example: jenvazquez.com)
  • Do you have 15-20 boards? It’s a nice foundation to start.

STEP 3:  REVIEW GROUP BOARDS

Group boards are signified by seeing a group of people on the board.  Review these:

  • Review the boards to ensure they are in your area of expertise.
  • Review the boards to see the analytics and that they are still performing for you.  If they aren’t, leave the group.

STEP 4:  REVIEW OLD PINS

I never recommend deleting pins.  The only reason you should delete pins is if the link is broken because broken links can affect your account with regard to analytics.

You can try first to edit the pin and upload the correct link.  But if you can’t for whatever reason, delete it.   And don’t go looking for broken links, only address them when you see them.

SUMMARY

As a reminder, you want to do this spring cleaning once a year at a minimum but consider doing this every six months.  If you would like some help, you can view my services here.

SEO Basics – 5 Simple Tips to Boost Your Business

SEO Basics – 5 Simple Tips to Boost Your Business

SEO Basics – 5 Simple Tips to Boost Your Business

SEO is search engine optimization. This is the process of marking your online content visible and more attractive to search engines like Google. Google indexes websites. It also gives rankings to websites which results in how high they appear when people like you and I search for different terms.

Effective SEO can help boost your rankings and ensure that your business appears higher for relevant search terms. This, in turn, can help improve exposure and custom. In the below guide, we look at 5 simple things you can do to boost your business SEO without hiring an SEO specialist!

1. Research useful keywords

Before implementing anything, you must research your keywords. What keywords are your customers likely to search for? There are many tools you can use to help find keywords such as Google Keyword Planner. Use these tools to find the most effective keywords for your target audience.

2. Write META title and description tags for all web pages

The META title and description tags are HTML tags that are part of the header code of a web page. These are important tags for SEO and all your web pages should have them. The title tag is a short description of the web page, up to 55 characters ideally.

Alternatively, the description tag is a longer description of the web page content and should be between 135-155 characters. These tags should also include your main keyword, preferably at the start of the text.

3. Add ALT tags for images

All images on your website and blog should have an ALT tag, including your logo. You can use a free tool like GraphicSprings to produce a business logo incidentally. The ALT tag is an HTML tag and stands for alternative text.

This is the alternative text that would be displayed when using a screen reader, for blind people, for example. It also has value for SEO, however. An ALT tag should describe the image, but if possible, you could also include a keyword.

4. Include internal and external links to your content

Backlinks are an important aspect of SEO improvements. Backlinks can be both internal and external. Internal links are links within your own business – for example, other web pages. External links are links to other websites that you do not own – for example, complementary websites, or statistical sites.

In your online content, try and include both internal and external links. The links should be relevant to the content you are creating. Also, external links should ideally be from high-authority sources – i.e. websites with a great reputation.

5. Use keywords naturally in your written content

Finally, the keywords you have researched should also appear naturally in your written content. The key here is naturally. You cannot force keywords otherwise this could be marked as spam and negatively affect your SEO rating.

Best practice involves inserting a keyword in your initial page title, a sub-heading if possible, and several times naturally in the written paragraphs of your content. Try to only concentrate on one main keyword per page, but also add a few secondary keywords too.

These are all things that anyone can do. They don’t require extensive SEO or web development knowledge. If you want to improve your SEO, we advise implementing these 5 tips today. The first step is to understand your keywords and know what phrases and words you want to target with your SEO.

From there, you can implement the other tips and build a basic SEO strategy that should improve your exposure on Google over time.
