Pinterest 101 for 2023: Why Use Pinterest for Your Service-Based Business
Pinterest 101 Series
Are you wanting to jump on Pinterest for your business? Are you already on Pinterest for your business but it doesn’t seem to be working? Are you curious about using Pinterest for your business? If any of those questions resonated with you, then keep reading!
Can you believe it? I’ve been using Pinterest for my photography biz since 2009 – back when it was invite-only in beta! And you know what? I didn’t keep all that Pinterest goodness to myself. Oh no, I helped my wedding pro friends figure it all out, and then launched Jen Vazquez Media in 2018 so I could help even MORE people!
Since 2018, I’ve been teaching Pinterest but let’s be real – I’ve bounced around a bit with all the questions I get and news or new tools that Pinterest launches. But, fear not! I’ve decided to take all of you business owners on a journey through Pinterest 101 over the next several blogs. That’s right, you can go from blog to blog and get all the help you need to master Pinterest like a pro!
In 2022, I was honored to be selected by Pinterest to be a Pinterest Pioneer helping in the Pinterest Business Community and also working with Tailwind to educate on Pinterest. These two honors are the highlights of my business!
Last weekend, I had an epiphany. I realized that I haven’t created a whole series for those of you who are brand new to the Pinterest world – like, starting from scratch with no Pinterest Business account OR you’ve been using Pinterest for your business but you don’t feel like it’s working.
Whether you’re a total newbie or a seasoned pro, there’s something for everyone in this series. And TBH, there’s a lot of conflicting information out there. That’s why I always say if the Pinterest advice is older than six months, it’s probably as outdated as a pair of platform shoes (although are they coming back???).
Let’s start from the very beginning, shall we? We’re going to dive into all the juicy tweaks and details that’ll take your Pinterest business account from boring to mind-blowing and from not quite there to as effective as possible to get the most reach you can to skyrocket your business leads! Trust me, you won’t want to miss out on this ride.
So buckle up, my fellow Pinners, and let’s dive in!
Why Use Pinterest
Holy moly, there are countless reasons why Pinterest is a must-have tool for your business. But, let me hit you with some hard facts that will have you jumping on the Pinterest train in no time:
- Pinterest had 450 million monthly active users in February 2023
- Data published in the company’s most recent investor earnings report shows that Pinterest’s monthly active users have grown steadily over the past three months.
- The total number of people that use Pinterest each month increased by roughly 5 million in the three months leading up to February 2023.
- There is less competition on Pinterest for businesses. TikTok (1.051B) Instagram (2B), YouTube (2.514B), Facebook (2.958B). Pinterest has 450M+ so less competition and more room for growth!
- The United States as the largest amount of users (Pinners) at 93.0 million
A bonus about Pinterest is the ultimate low-energy social media platform. There are no bullies here, just good vibes and inspiration! It’s a place where you can go to change your life and discover new ways of doing things. Talk about positive energy!
But, here’s the best part: Pinterest is the easiest social media platform. My clients spend about an hour scheduling out your pins and have your next week or two covered. And the best part? It gives the biggest bang for their time buck. Trust me, you won’t want to miss out on all the benefits that Pinterest has to offer!
More stats that will shock and encourage you to try Pinterest for your business is the Lifespan of a Pin compared to other social media platforms. Would you rather spend hours and hours on Instagram and continually have to create content, or spend an hour a week and have pins last year? That’s right I have several pins that are still popular from 2014! Here are 2023 stats for social media platforms:
-
- TikTok Negligible unless you “go viral”
- Facebook 1.75 hours
- Instagram 20 hours
- LinkedIn 24 hours
- YouTube 8 hours
- Pinterest 3.8 months
- Blogs 2 years
Pinterest Business Account vs. Personal Account
Pro Tip: Consider if you want to manage two accounts. If you don’t, convert your personal account because you can still pin, you’ll just have all your personal pins on a secret board.
It is imperative to have a business account if you want to use Pinterest to market your business. There are two ways to do that. One is to convert your personal account to a business account and the second way is to create a new account as a business account.
Choosing a username (the URL link https://www.pinterest.com/jenvazquezmedia) you want to use your business name or a version of your business name. This way, when people search for your business, they find your profile, boards, and pins. It’s the magic key that unlocks the door to your Pinterest account.
Convert your Personal Pinterest Account to a Business account:
- Go to https://business.pinterest.com/ and click on the “Convert to a business account” button.
- Enter your personal account information and click on the “Convert” button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process of converting your account to a business account.
Create a business account:
- Go to https://business.pinterest.com/ and click on the “Create a free business account” button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process of setting up your business account.
