Pinterest 101 for 2023: Why Use Pinterest for Your Service-Based Business

Pinterest 101 Series

Are you wanting to jump on Pinterest for your business? Are you already on Pinterest for your business but it doesn’t seem to be working?  Are you curious about using Pinterest for your business? If any of those questions resonated with you, then keep reading!

Can you believe it? I’ve been using Pinterest for my photography biz since 2009 – back when it was invite-only in beta!  And you know what? I didn’t keep all that Pinterest goodness to myself. Oh no, I helped my wedding pro friends figure it all out, and then launched Jen Vazquez Media in 2018 so I could help even MORE people!

Since 2018, I’ve been teaching Pinterest but let’s be real – I’ve bounced around a bit with all the questions I get and news or new tools that Pinterest launches. But, fear not! I’ve decided to take all of you business owners on a journey through Pinterest 101 over the next several blogs. That’s right, you can go from blog to blog and get all the help you need to master Pinterest like a pro!

In 2022, I was honored to be selected by Pinterest to be a Pinterest Pioneer helping in the Pinterest Business Community and also working with Tailwind to educate on Pinterest. These two honors are the highlights of my business!

Last weekend, I had an epiphany.  I realized that I haven’t created a whole series for those of you who are brand new to the Pinterest world – like, starting from scratch with no Pinterest Business account OR you’ve been using Pinterest for your business but you don’t feel like it’s working.

Whether you’re a total newbie or a seasoned pro, there’s something for everyone in this series. And TBH, there’s a lot of conflicting information out there. That’s why I always say if the Pinterest advice is older than six months, it’s probably as outdated as a pair of platform shoes (although are they coming back???).

Let’s start from the very beginning, shall we? We’re going to dive into all the juicy tweaks and details that’ll take your Pinterest business account from boring to mind-blowing and from not quite there to as effective as possible to get the most reach you can to skyrocket your business leads! Trust me, you won’t want to miss out on this ride.

So buckle up, my fellow Pinners, and let’s dive in!

Why Use Pinterest

Holy moly, there are countless reasons why Pinterest is a must-have tool for your business. But, let me hit you with some hard facts that will have you jumping on the Pinterest train in no time:

A bonus about Pinterest is the ultimate low-energy social media platform. There are no bullies here, just good vibes and inspiration! It’s a place where you can go to change your life and discover new ways of doing things. Talk about positive energy!

But, here’s the best part: Pinterest is the easiest social media platform.  My clients spend about an hour scheduling out your pins and have your next week or two covered. And the best part? It gives the biggest bang for their time buck. Trust me, you won’t want to miss out on all the benefits that Pinterest has to offer!

More stats that will shock and encourage you to try Pinterest for your business is the Lifespan of a Pin compared to other social media platforms.  Would you rather spend hours and hours on Instagram and continually have to create content, or spend an hour a week and have pins last year?  That’s right I have several pins that are still popular from 2014!  Here are 2023 stats for social media platforms:

    • TikTok Negligible unless you “go viral”
    • Facebook 1.75 hours
    • Instagram 20 hours
    • LinkedIn 24 hours
    • YouTube 8 hours
    • Pinterest 3.8 months
    • Blogs 2 years

Pinterest Business Account vs. Personal Account

Pro Tip: Consider if you want to manage two accounts.  If you don’t, convert your personal account because you can still pin, you’ll just have all your personal pins on a secret board.

It is imperative to have a business account if you want to use Pinterest to market your business.  There are two ways to do that. One is to convert your personal account to a business account and the second way is to create a new account as a business account.

Choosing a username (the URL link https://www.pinterest.com/jenvazquezmedia) you want to use your business name or a version of your business name.  This way, when people search for your business, they find your profile, boards, and pins.  It’s the magic key that unlocks the door to your Pinterest account.

Convert your Personal Pinterest Account to a Business account:

  1. Go to https://business.pinterest.com/ and click on the “Convert to a business account” button.
  2. Enter your personal account information and click on the “Convert” button.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process of converting your account to a business account.

Create a business account:

  1. Go to https://business.pinterest.com/ and click on the “Create a free business account” button.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process of setting up your business account.

Summary

To sum it all up, Pinterest is a powerful tool for businesses with over 450 million monthly active users and less competition compared to other social media platforms. It’s a low-energy platform that provides inspiration and positivity, and it’s also incredibly easy to use, with an hour of scheduling out pins enough to cover your next week or two. Plus, pins have a much longer lifespan than other social media platforms. And, we’ve also discussed the importance of having a business account on Pinterest and how to create one.

In this Pinterest 101 series, we’ll take you through everything you need to know about using Pinterest for your business. We’ll cover topics such as optimizing your profile, crafting killer pins, mastering Pinterest SEO, and how to read the analytics. So, buckle up and get ready to take your Pinterest game to the next level!

It’s like having a personal copywriter at your fingertips, trained specifically for creating effective marketing copy for small businesses. And get this – it produces a natural-sounding copy with perfect grammar AND even optimizes it to help you reach your business goals. How cool is that?

But wait, there’s more! Have you checked out Tailwind’s Labs page? It’s a treasure trove of over 40 specialized content creation tools that can boost your productivity like crazy. The only downside is that with so many tools, it can be a little overwhelming to find the one you need. That’s why Tailwind has added a quick search bar to the top of the page – just type in a keyword like “blog” and voila! All the relevant tools will be highlighted fast.

Now, drumroll please – my new favorite content creation tool inside Ghostwriter is called “From Idea to Article” (aka blog heaven). Just choose your topic and let Ghostwriter generate an outline and content for you – complete with action-oriented language, urgency, and social proof. In just a few clicks, you’ll have a fully fleshed-out blog post that you can customize to fit your brand voice. Trust me, it’s a game-changer.

How does Tailwind’s Ghostwriter From Idea to Article work?

Hold on to your hats, folks – using Ghostwriter is an absolute breeze! You can access it from within the Tailwind platform or through the Tailwind Chrome Extension, which puts a cute little blue ghost on the bottom right of any window. It’s like having a friendly little ghost pal to help you create killer content no matter where you are on your computer. Personally, I like to use it in a Google doc, but you can use it while on the backend of your blog too.

Once you’ve selected your idea, Ghostwriter gets to work and generates an outline and content for you – complete with action-oriented language, urgency, and social proof. That means you can go from having a simple idea to a full-fledged blog post in no time flat. And get this – you can even pick from different options and styles to make sure your content is exactly what you’re looking for.

Oh, and did I mention that it’s lightning-fast? You’ll be amazed at how quickly Ghostwriter can whip up high-quality content that’s ready to publish, provided you input your personal brand voice via words.

Don’t believe me? Check out the tutorial video below and see my own surprise at just how speedy it is.

And the best part? There’s a forever free plan available, so you can try out Ghostwriter for yourself without spending a dime. But I have to be real with you – I have a feeling this plan won’t be around forever. Ghostwriter is just too valuable and too darn good to stay free for long. So sign up now and take advantage of this amazing tool while you still can!

Why use Ghostwriter?

Get ready to level up your content game with Ghostwriter by Tailwind! Here are just a few reasons why Ghostwriter is a total game-changer for your business:

Save time like a boss: Writing a blog post can take hours, but with Ghostwriter, you can cut that time in half (or even more – seriously, it’s like magic!). That means you can spend more time on the other important aspects of your business, like crafting killer products or connecting with your audience.

Boost engagement and drive clicks: Ghostwriter uses action-oriented language, urgency, and social proof to create content that your audience can’t resist. That means your content will be more engaging, and you’ll see a boost in clicks, likes, and shares.

Streamline your marketing efforts like a pro: With Ghostwriter, you can create blog posts, social media captions, and more with ease. That means you can have a consistent brand voice across all your marketing channels and save time by using one tool for all your content needs.

How I used Ghostwriter

I’ve been using Tailwind’s Ghostwriter to help with Pinterest pin titles and descriptions, I’ve used it for Instagram posts but today I put Ghostwriter to the test by using Idea to Article within Ghostwriter.  I chose the subject I was going to write myself. And I typically take between 4-5 hours from beginning to end, because writing can be hard for me.

Today, I wrote the blog with Ghostwriter on the importance of calls to action in your business. I selected the title “Five Effective Calls to Action That Will Boost Your Business Results” from several options and let Ghostwriter generate the outline and content for me.

As mentioned earlier, I was blown away by how fast and efficient it was. In just a few clicks, I had a fully fleshed-out blog post that I could customize to fit my brand voice. I was also able to add keywords and phrases to make sure they appeared in the post.

Final Thoughts

Unleash Your Business’s Potential: Marketing Strategies Every Female Service Business Owner Needs to Know

Unleash Your Business's Potential: Marketing Strategies Every Female Service Business Owner Needs to Know

Marketing Strategies Every Female Service Business Owner Should Know

Hey there, it’s Jen Vazquez here, Founder of Jen Vazquez Media specializing in Pinterest Marketing, and I wanted to share with you about marketing strategies for female business owners who offer services. As a service-based business owner myself, I know that marketing can be a daunting and overwhelming task. With so many different marketing channels and strategies out there, it can be hard to know where to start.

But the truth is, marketing is a crucial component of any successful business. It’s what helps you get your name out there, attract new clients, and ultimately grow your business. The key is to find marketing strategies that work for you and your unique business.

One important thing to consider is your own energy level and work style. Some marketing strategies require a lot of energy and effort, while others are more low-key and hands-off. It’s important to choose a strategy that aligns with your energy and work preferences, so you can stay consistent and see results.

Another important factor to consider is your target audience. Depending on your niche, some marketing strategies may be more effective than others. For example, if you’re targeting busy moms, social media and email marketing might be your best bet. If you’re targeting high-level executives, networking, and influencer marketing might be more effective.

Ultimately, the key is to experiment and find what works best for you and your business. It may take some trial and error, but with a little persistence and determination, you can find the marketing strategies that will help you unleash your business’s full potential. So let’s dive in and explore some of the most effective marketing strategies for female service-based business owners!

Word-of-mouth marketing

Word-of-mouth marketing is one of the most powerful tools in your marketing arsenal. People trust the opinions of their friends and family more than any other form of advertising, so getting your satisfied clients to spread the word about your services is key.

To get started, make sure you’re providing exceptional service to your clients. Focus on going above and beyond their expectations, and always aim to exceed their needs. When your clients are thrilled with your service, they’ll be more likely to recommend you to others.

Another way to encourage word-of-mouth marketing is to incentivize your clients. Consider offering referral bonuses or other rewards to clients who refer new business your way. This can be a win-win situation, as your clients will feel valued and appreciated, and you’ll get new business as a result.

Don’t be afraid to ask for referrals, either. When you’ve completed a project for a satisfied client, let them know that you would love to work with other people like them. Encourage them to share your contact information with anyone they think could benefit from your services.

Finally, make it easy for people to recommend you. Make sure your website has a clear and prominent “refer a friend” button, and include share buttons on all of your social media content. The easier you make it for people to refer you, the more likely they’ll be to do so.

Remember, word-of-mouth marketing is all about building trust and providing exceptional service to your clients. Focus on creating an outstanding experience for each and every one of your clients, and word will spread about your business in no time.

Email marketing

Email marketing is a powerful way to stay in touch with your existing clients and nurture new leads. With email marketing, you can create a more personal and direct connection with your audience, and provide them with valuable information and updates about your services.

To get started with email marketing, you’ll need to build an email list. You can do this by adding a sign-up form to your website or blog, offering a free resource or incentive for signing up, or collecting email addresses from clients and prospects directly.

Once you have your email list, it’s important to focus on creating valuable and engaging content. Your emails should be informative, helpful, and relevant to your target audience. Consider sharing your expertise, providing tips and advice, or showcasing success stories from your clients.

One important thing to keep in mind is the frequency of your emails. You don’t want to overwhelm your audience with too many emails, but you also don’t want to go too long without contacting them. Finding the right balance will depend on your audience and your specific business, so be sure to experiment and see what works best.

When it comes to email marketing, personalization is key. Make sure your emails are addressed to your recipient by name and consider segmenting your email list so you can send more targeted messages. You might also consider adding personal touches, like including a personal anecdote or story in your emails.

Finally, be sure to track your results and adjust your strategy as needed. Look at metrics like open rates, click-through rates, and conversions to see how your emails are performing. Use this information to refine your email content and optimize your campaigns over time.

Email marketing can be a powerful tool for nurturing leads and building relationships with your audience. By providing valuable content and a personal touch, you can turn your email list into a valuable asset for your business.

Content marketing

Content marketing can be a fun and effective way to attract new clients and showcase your expertise. With content marketing, you can create valuable and entertaining content that your target audience will love, while also establishing yourself as a thought leader in your industry.

But let’s be real, creating content can be tough. It’s not easy to come up with new and engaging ideas all the time. That’s why it’s important to find a content format that works for you and your unique style.

Maybe you love writing blog posts and providing helpful tips and advice to your audience. Or maybe you’re more of a podcast person, and you love sharing your expertise in a conversational format. Whatever your preference, make sure you’re choosing a format that feels authentic to you and your brand.

When it comes to content, it’s also important to be consistent. Don’t post a flurry of content all at once and then disappear for months at a time. Instead, set a schedule and stick to it. Whether it’s once a week, twice a month, or once a quarter, make sure you’re consistently providing valuable content to your audience.

One way to make content creation more fun is to involve your team (whether that’s your VA, your husband, or your dog supporting you hehe😜).  Maybe you could create a series of hilarious videos or infographics that showcase your brand’s personality. The more you can inject your own unique brand of humor and creativity into your content, the more likely you are to attract and engage your audience.

So, get creative, have fun, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different formats and styles. With a little bit of humor and a lot of passion, you can create content that will help you stand out in your industry and attract new clients to your service-based business.

Social Media

Ah, social media. It’s the great equalizer. Whether you’re a Fortune 500 company or a one-person operation, social media gives you the power to connect with your audience and showcase your brand in a fun and engaging way.

But let’s be real: social media can be overwhelming. There are so many platforms to choose from, and each one has its own set of rules and best practices. So where do you even start?

I OF COURSE think you should use Pinterest as it’s more effective at driving traffic to your website, it’s super low energy, unlike something like Instagram, and it’s a search engine rather than social media in nature.  But I digress, let’s get back to the overall look.

First of all, it’s important to know your audience. Which platforms do they use the most? Are they more likely to engage with you on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, or TikTok? Once you know where your audience hangs out, you can focus your efforts on those platforms.

One important thing to keep in mind is that social media is all about building relationships. It’s not just about promoting your business – it’s about engaging with your audience and providing value to them.

So, how do you do that? Start by sharing engaging and entertaining content that your audience will love. Maybe it’s a behind-the-scenes look at your business, a funny meme that’s relevant to your industry, or an inspirational quote that will resonate with your audience.

You should also be engaging with your audience directly. Respond to comments and messages in a timely manner, and try to initiate conversations with your followers. The more you can create a sense of community around your brand, the more likely your audience is to engage with you and become loyal customers.

Note: don’t be afraid to experiment with different types of content and formats. Maybe you want to try your hand at Instagram Reels, or go live on Facebook and answer questions from your audience, or use trending audio on TikTok. The more you can mix things up and keep things fresh, the more likely you are to stand out and attract new followers (as well as not get bored!).

Final Tip: REPURPOSE!! If you have a video on any platform, save it before publishing (so there aren’t any watermark logos).  Then turn around and use them on all the platforms you are on.  Here are the places I share when I create a short-form video:  Pinterest Idea Pin, Pinterest Video Pin, Youtube short, TikTok, Linkedin video, Facebook Video, and Instagram Reel.  I feel like I might be forgetting one but you get the point.

Bonus tip:  Don’t forget the algorithm tips for all platforms ——- wait for it

——

type keywords that someone would type to find your contact as the title (text on the screen or text overlay).  That text section is a SEARCHABLE area!!

So go forth, my social media-loving friends, and have fun. With a little bit of creativity and a lot of personalities, you can use social media to grow your service-based business and connect with your audience in a meaningful way.

Creative Marketing Summit

Transform your service-based business with valuable insights and actionable strategies on how to find, attract, and book your ideal clients at our marketing summit.

Events And Webinars/Masterclasses

Events and webinars can be a powerful way to connect with your audience and showcase your expertise. Whether you’re hosting an in-person event or a virtual webinar, you have the opportunity to provide valuable information and build strong relationships with your attendees.

I’ve done a ton of webinars and masterclasses, and just completed my first event Creative Marketing Summit.  You can still get the replays for the 22 amazing speakers who are marketing experts.

But let’s be real: events and webinars can be a lot of work. From planning and promoting to delivering a great presentation, there’s a lot to think about. But with a little bit of planning and a lot of enthusiasm, you can make your events and webinars a success.

When it comes to events, it’s important to think about your target audience and what kind of event they would enjoy. Maybe you host a happy hour for local business owners, or maybe you put on a full-day workshop that dives deep into your area of expertise. Whatever you choose, make sure it’s something that will provide value to your attendees and help you establish your authority in your industry.

Webinars, on the other hand, can be a great way to connect with a wider audience and share your expertise with people all over the world. When planning a webinar, start by choosing a topic that’s relevant to your target audience and that showcases your expertise. From there, you’ll need to think about the logistics of hosting a successful webinar, including promoting the event, choosing the right platform, and delivering a great presentation.

One important thing to keep in mind with both events and webinars is that it’s all about engagement. You don’t want to just talk at your audience – you want to get them involved and make the experience fun and interactive. Maybe you host a Q&A session, or maybe you incorporate games and activities into your presentation. The more you can engage your audience and make them feel like they’re part of the experience, the more successful your event or webinar will be.

So, let’s get out there and plan some amazing events and webinars, my friends! With a little bit of planning and a lot of enthusiasm, you can connect with your audience and grow your service-based business like a pro.

Paid Advertising

Ah, paid advertising. It’s the holy grail of marketing, the key to unlocking a flood of new business and skyrocketing your success. Or is it?

Okay, let’s be real – paid advertising isn’t a silver bullet. It’s not going to magically transform your business overnight. But it can be a powerful way to reach new audiences and attract new clients.

When it comes to paid advertising, the first step is to figure out which platforms are the best fit for your business. Google AdWords is a popular option for businesses that want to target people who are actively searching for their services. Facebook Ads are great for businesses that want to target specific demographics and interests.

Once you’ve chosen a platform, it’s important to focus on creating engaging and effective ads. You only have a few seconds to capture your audience’s attention, so make sure your ads are eye-catching and informative. Maybe you use bright colors and bold fonts to stand out, or maybe you use a catchy tagline that will stick in your audience’s mind.

It’s also important to set a budget and track your results. Don’t just throw money at ads and hope for the best – be strategic about where you’re spending your money, and adjust your strategy as needed.

Finally, don’t forget to experiment with different ad formats and targeting options. Maybe you want to try a video ad instead of a static image, or maybe you want to target a new demographic to see if it drives better results. The more you can experiment and refine your strategy over time, the more likely you are to see success with paid advertising.

Paid advertising isn’t for everyone, but if you’re willing to put in the time and effort to create effective ads, it can be a powerful tool for growing your service-based business. So go forth, my advertising-loving friends, and create ads that will make your audience say “wow!” (and hopefully not “meh”).

Unleash Your Business's Potential: Marketing Strategies Every Female Service Business Owner Needs to Know

Influencer Marketing

Alright, my influencer-loving friends, it’s time to talk about the power of the ‘gram. That’s right, I’m talking about influencer marketing.

Influencer marketing can be a great way to reach new audiences and build credibility for your brand. By partnering with influencers in your industry, you can leverage their reach and reputation to get your name out there and attract new clients.

But before you go sending DMs to every influencer under the sun, it’s important to do your research. Not all influencers are created equal, and not all of them will be a good fit for your brand.

Start by looking for influencers who align with your values and your target audience. Maybe you’re a sustainable fashion brand, and you want to partner with influencers who share your passion for eco-friendly fashion. Or maybe you’re a business coach, and you want to partner with influencers who target the same demographic as your ideal client.

Once you’ve found a few influencers you’re interested in working with, it’s important to engage with them in a genuine and authentic way. Don’t just send a cold pitch asking them to promote your brand – take the time to build a relationship and establish trust.

One way to do this is to follow them on social media, engage with their posts, and share their content with your own audience. This can help you establish a connection and show them that you’re genuinely interested in their work.

When it comes time to actually partner with an influencer, be sure to set clear expectations and goals for the campaign. What do you want them to promote? What kind of content do you want them to create? And what metrics will you be tracking to measure the success of the campaign?

Finally, don’t be afraid to get creative with your influencer marketing. Maybe you want to create a fun challenge or hashtag that your influencer can help promote. Or maybe you want to offer an exclusive discount or free trial to their followers. The more you can make the campaign fun and engaging, the more likely you are to attract new clients and build buzz for your brand.

Influencer marketing can be a powerful tool for growing your service-based business, but it’s important to approach it in a strategic and authentic way. So go forth, my influencer-loving friends, and let’s take the ‘gram by storm!

Networking

Ah, networking. The necessary evil of every business owner. But it doesn’t have to be a snooze-fest, my friends. In fact, with a little bit of creativity and a lot of personalities, networking can be downright fun.

So where do you even start with networking? Well, the first step is to figure out where your ideal clients hang out. Are they at industry conferences and events? Or are they more likely to attend local meetups and networking groups?

Once you know where your ideal clients are, it’s time to get out there and start mingling. But don’t just show up and hand out business cards like a robot. Instead, focus on building real relationships with the people you meet.

One way to do this is to inject some of your own unique personality into the conversation. Maybe you crack a joke, or maybe you share a personal anecdote that helps you connect with the other person on a deeper level.

Another way to make networking more fun is to collaborate with other business owners in your industry. Maybe you co-host a workshop or event, or maybe you team up to offer a joint service or product. The more you can work together and support each other, the more successful you’ll all be.

Finally, don’t forget to follow up with the people you meet. Whether it’s sending a quick email or connecting on LinkedIn, taking the time to follow up and stay in touch can help you build strong and lasting relationships.

So, my networking-loving friends, let’s embrace the awkward handshakes and sweaty palms and make networking fun. With a little bit of humor and a lot of charm, you can connect with new clients and grow your service-based business like a pro.

Summary

Well, my fellow service-based business owners, I hope you’re feeling inspired and empowered after reading this post! We’ve covered a lot of ground today, from networking and events to social media and paid advertising.

But here’s the thing: marketing your business doesn’t have to be a chore. It doesn’t have to be something you dread or something you’re not good at. With a little bit of creativity and a lot of enthusiasm, you can find marketing strategies that work for you and that help you connect with your audience in a meaningful way.

Whether you’re a social media guru, a content marketing maven, or an event-planning extraordinaire, there’s a marketing strategy out there that’s perfect for you and your unique style. So don’t be afraid to experiment, try new things, and inject your own personality and humor into your marketing efforts.

At the end of the day, marketing your service-based business is all about building relationships and providing value to your audience. It’s not about spamming people with ads or pushing a hard sell. It’s about connecting with people on a deeper level and showing them why your services are the best fit for their needs.

So go forth, my friends, and market your service-based businesses with passion and purpose. With a little bit of optimism, a workflow that flows for you, and a whole lot of determination, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Get ready to unleash the secret weapon in your marketing arsenal! Pinterest may be a hidden gem, but it’s a FREE and super-powered platform that your business simply can’t ignore, plus it can help you to make more money in your business!

A couple of things to note:

  • You need to have a Pinterest business account
  • You need to claim your website
  • You need to be using very strategic keywords that entice people to click
  • You need to be consistent.

If consistency is a problem, you can use Tailwind to do all of the pinning for you, you simply load in the content and it drips it out over time on the best dates/times for you.

OR you can outsource it to someone like me.

Now that the Pinterest Creator Rewards program is ending I thought I’d share all the ways (besides that) that you can make money!

Working with Brands by Partnering

Yes, that’s right, you are able to be a Pinterest Influencer!

Partner up with your favorite brands and let the magic happen! A paid partnership is where a creator, like you, teams up with a brand to create awesome content that promotes their products. All you have to do is tag the brand in your Pinterest Idea Pin, and voila! The “Paid Partnership” label will appear, making it clear to everyone that you’re working with the brand. Just make sure the brand approves the tag first, so their name can shine alongside yours!

You can learn all about this on Pinterest

Most Pinterest partnerships are often formed outside of Pinterest, but some people have connected with brands through Pinterest by creating an Idea Pin, talking about a product they love, and then tagging that brand!

And if that brand really loves your content, they could turn that idea pin into an ad they pay for.  This will help YOU get more exposure!

To get the best chance are getting those brand deals, you’ll want to see what content they create and use that as inspiration for something you want to do.

Increasing your engaged audience, getting more impressive and followers will also help to entice them to work with you.

Make Your Idea Pins Shoppable

Get ready to make shopping a breeze for your audience! When you tag products in your Idea Pins, you’re giving your followers the power to shop your picks with just a few clicks. All you have to do is search for the product you want to recommend and tag it in your Pin.

It’s that simple! Your followers will thank you for making their shopping experience effortless.

Create Affiliate Idea Pins

Affiliate marketing is an amazing way to build passive income as you can receive a commission when someone sees your content and makes a purchase.   ]

While you can link directly to the affiliate link, be sure to try linking to a blog post where that content is.  You’ll make google happy and the links to your claimed website typically get the best reach.

Make sure you don’t mess with the FTC!  Clearly, state when affiliate links are being shared within a piece of content.

PRO TIP:  Pinterest discourages link shorteners or tools that disguise the final URL when sharing affiliate links.

Send Traffic to Your Blog

Getting people to your blog helps Google to feel the love and spread your website to more people in searches, helps you create that know, like, and trust, and helps the Pinner to discover new information or find inspiration for free!

Create pins for your services as people are looking for your services on Pinterest.  Create pins that are your brand colors but also try other colors to appeal to more people.  Use a variety of keywords on multiple pins til you find the sweet spot or keywords that work best for your ideal client.

Send Traffic to Your Freebies/Lead Magnets

Pinterest is amazing for lead magnets and the pins stick around and stay around sending consistent traffic to your lead magnet growing your email list.

  • Create a Lead Magnet (Cheatsheet, Quiz, and Checklist are best)
  • Create several pins (using different images and text overlay) that link to that blog post
  • Pin those pins to Pinterest on multiple boards that make sense over time (not all at once) or use Tailwind to be able to send it all at one sitting and Tailwind will drip it out for you!
  • It’s important to make sure that you have 3-5 welcome emails that auto send each day after they sign up telling them who you are, how you help, what services you have and a call to action to take the next step.
  • And in the last email, you give them an offer (course, membership, or service)

Blogging for Business Growth: A Guide for Business Coaches

Blogging is a powerful tool that can help business coaches grow their business and reach a wider audience. With over 500 million active blogs on the internet, there is no shortage of opportunities to share your expertise, reach new clients, and establish your brand as an authority in your industry.  I can’t forget to also add that blogs and Pinterest work hand in hand!

Here are some tips on how to use blogging to grow your business as a business coach:

Know your audience

Knowing your audience is a critical step in creating a successful blog for your business. When you understand who your target audience is, what their pain points are, and what they’re interested in reading, you can create content that resonates with them and drives traffic to your blog.

To get to know your audience, consider the following:

  • Demographics: Who are they? What is their age, gender, location, education level, etc.?
  • Pain Points: What are their biggest challenges and struggles in their professional or personal life?
  • Interests: What do they like to read about? What are their hobbies and interests outside of work?
  • Goals: What do they hope to achieve in their career or personal life?
  • Behaviors: How do they consume information? Do they prefer to read long-form content or short, bite-sized pieces? Do they prefer visual content like infographics or videos?

By understanding your audience, you can create content that speaks directly to them and addresses their needs. This will help build trust with your audience and keep them coming back for more. Additionally, by providing valuable content that resonates with your audience, you will improve your search engine rankings and attract new visitors to your blog.

Offer valuable content

Offering valuable and relevant content is the key to attracting and retaining an audience for your business coaching blog. The content you create should be more than just a sales pitch for your services, but instead should educate and inspire your audience. Here are a few things to keep in mind when creating valuable content:

  • Share your expertise: As a business coach, you have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with your audience. Write blog posts that showcase your expertise in areas such as leadership, strategy, and personal development. Offer tips and insights that your audience can use to improve their own businesses and careers.
  • Provide actionable advice: Your blog posts should be more than just theory and abstract concepts. Instead, provide practical and actionable advice that your audience can put into practice. This will show them the value of your services and keep them coming back for more.
  • Offer unique perspectives: Don’t be afraid to take a unique approach to your blog content. Share your own experiences and insights, and offer new and creative solutions to common business challenges. This will help you stand out from other business coaches and attract new readers to your blog.
  • Keep it relevant: Make sure your blog content is relevant and up-to-date. Stay on top of the latest trends and developments in your industry and incorporate them into your blog posts. This will show your audience that you are a thought leader in your field.

By providing valuable and relevant content, you will establish yourself as a trusted source of information for your audience. This will help you build a strong and loyal following, and ultimately grow your business as a business coach.

Here are some tips for optimizing your blog for search engines:

  1. Conduct keyword research: Identify keywords and phrases that are relevant to your business coaching niche and that your target audience is likely to search for. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner to find popular keywords and get ideas for new ones.
  2. Use keywords in your post titles: Make sure the keywords you target are included in your post titles. This will help search engines understand what your post is about and improve your visibility in search results.
  3. Incorporate keywords throughout your content: In addition to using keywords in your post titles, you should also incorporate them into your content. Use them in your headings, subheadings, and throughout the body of your post.
  4. Write high-quality content: The most important factor in ranking well in search results is the quality of your content. Write blog posts that are well-written, informative, and provide value to your audience.
  5. Use meta descriptions: The meta description is the brief summary of your blog post that appears in search results. Use your keywords in your meta descriptions and make sure they accurately reflect the content of your post.
  6. By following these tips, you can improve your visibility in search results and make it easier for people to find your blog. This will help you attract new visitors and ultimately grow your business as a business coach.

  3. Collaborate with other bloggers and business coaches: Reach out to other bloggers and business coaches in your niche and see if they would be interested in guest posting on your blog or if you could guest post on theirs. This will help you reach a new audience and build relationships with other influencers in your industry.
  4. Utilize community forums and discussion groups: Participate in online community forums and discussion groups related to business coaching. Share your blog post and engage in discussions to drive traffic back to your blog.
  5. Utilize paid advertising: Consider using paid advertising options, such as Facebook Ads or Google AdWords, to promote your blog post and reach a wider audience.

By promoting your blog post and reaching as many people as possible, you’ll be able to grow your business as a business coach and attract new clients.

Unlock the Potential of Idea Pins on Pinterest for Your Service-Based Business: Top 7 Strategies for 2023

Unlock the Potential of Idea Pins on Pinterest for Your Service-Based Business 7 Strategies in 2023

Get ready to skyrocket your Pinterest game in 2023!

Pinterest sent an email to creators ending the Pinterest Creator Rewards program at the end of November 2022.  In that email, the “bright spot” was they said links are coming to Idea Pins. It’s something that all Pinterest creators (not just those in the Creator Rewards program wanted), so now we are all waiting on bated breath.

In the meantime, it’s prudent that we improve our idea pin game.  On Pinterest Idea Pins are what Reels are to Instagram.  They tend to get seen the most and they can provide amazing engagement if used correctly!

Email sent by Pinterest about the Creator Rewards ending and Idea Pins Getting links

What Are Idea Pins and Why Use Them?

In case you are in the dark,  basically, you can think of Idea Pins as a cross between Instagram Stories and Reels. They allow you to showcase an idea from start to finish by uploading multiple slides of images and/or video. Unlike Instagram stories, Pinterest Idea Pins remain on your profile permanently (they will drive traffic for months and months once Pinterest releases them).

The reason you should use idea pins besides how much they are seen in your feed is that you’ll find great success using all types of pins rather than just standard pins alone AND now that idea pins will have links very soon, they will also be effective at driving traffic since they have the most engagement.

Consider also that Pinterest values them so much, they created a ‘Watch’ page in their mobile app to encourage people to scroll endlessly as we do on TikTok + Instagram.

Share the Complete Picture

When creating idea pins, make sure to include all the relevant details and information to give your followers a clear understanding of the idea and how they can make it happen. The more complete and informative your Idea Pin is, the more likely your followers are to be inspired and take action on your idea.

By using an idea pin to guide users from inspiration to action, you can increase engagement and provide some trust in that know, like trust marketing process.

Make A Splash With Video

Using video on your idea pins on Pinterest can be a powerful way to grab the attention of users and stand out in the feed. According to Pinterest, videos on the platform can drive up to 2.6x more engagement, so starting with a video on the first page of your idea pin can be a great way to increase visibility and engagement.

PRO TIP: Whenever Pinterest tells us something…. we should listen!

Also, Ensure that you use the Pinterest app on your cell phone as there are more options that desktop doesn’t have.

It’s All About The Details

When creating a video for your idea pin, make sure that it is high-quality and visually appealing. Take the video or photo in a well-lit room or if you are using branding images, ensure that you use a hi-resolution version of the image (about 1200 on the long edge is great).

Some ideas for idea pins are

  • Behind the scenes videos:  Share videos of you doing what you do! As an example, if you’re a photographer a video of you photographing someone.  If you are a coach, you working with something on the computer service your services.
  • How-to-videos:  like 5 steps to or sharing tips
  • low-energy type of videos: These are my favorites!  Creating short videos doing things like making a face, pointing, looking up and down on the side, etc., with text on top.

Some details to ensure that you use is text on the first slide (which should be a video). Text on the first slide should be keywords because this is a searchable area.

Also, add music, sound effects, stickers, etc.  Pinterest loves when we use all the bells and whistles.

Don’t forget to use a call to action!  You can find 80 calls to action for Pinterest in my free resources (see the link below)

Want Free Pinterest and Marketing Education?

I have a private Facebook Group where I am providing free marketing education for female service providers.  We bounce ideas off of each other, ask questions about our ideal client, Pinterest marketing, lead magnets, and more!  Click the button below to join us!

Speak to your peeps

One of the key elements of a successful Pinterest strategy is creating content (speaking to) your ideal client.  In other words, pretend you’re talking to a friend.  It will come across as authentic and relatable

Also consider providing this targeted content to help your ideal client have a transformation in their business.

You can also create inspiring content and cheeky or funny content that would really appeal to your ideal client.

Definitely avoid being overly promotional and salesy. While it’s important to include calls-to-action in your pins, too much emphasis on pushing your paid services can come across as inauthentic and may turn off potential customers.

Instead, focus on providing valuable information and inspiration while including CTA’s like lead magnets or any other type of free content.

Think about it – how often have you scrolled on Pinterest and purchased a 1k coaching program with a perfect stranger.  I’m sure you found them, stalked them, signed up for a free class, and then decided to work with them.

By focusing on building trust that you’re providing valuable educational content while being authentic and avoiding hard-selling tactics, you can increase organic reach on your Pinterest account and gain more engaged followers (as well as clients in the future).

DIY Your Way To Success

When creating idea pins, create visually appealing and engaging pins that would stop you from scrolling on Pinterest.  Try using photos and videos that you’ve taken even on your cell phone.  Or use a stock photo/video membership. I  love Social Squares as they are perfectly on brand for me bright light and full of thousands of options.  Social Squares is an amazing stock photo and video membership and I’ve got a link to check that out below.

You can also use free stock images like Pixel or Canva, but I’m sure you (like myself) have seen the same image on Pinterest multiple times and I wouldn’t describe them as scroll-stopping.

I can’t forget to remind you to use text overlay to enhance the visual appeal and make the information easier to read and understand.

Also, don’t forget to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and features on Pinterest. This can help you stay ahead of the curve and make the most of the platform’s capabilities to drive more traffic and engagement to your website.

Quality Control

To ensure that your pins look their best, it’s important to perform a quick quality check before publishing. This includes checking the edges of your pins to make sure that they’re properly aligned and that nothing important is cut off. Additionally, it’s important to make sure that any text overlay is within the safe zone so that they’re fully visible and easy to read.

By regularly checking the quality of your pins and making sure that they’re properly aligned and free of errors, you can ensure that they look professional and that they’re more likely to be saved and shared by others.

Unlock the Potential of Idea Pins on Pinterest for Your Service-Based Business 7 Strategies in 2023

Repurpose, Repurpose, Repurpose

Repurposing is something I’m passionate about as a mom of four adults (and 4 grandbabies) plus running two businesses, I don’t have time.  My clients tend to be the same, ultra-busy female service-based entrepreneurs who want to work smarter, not harder.

For both of those reasons, I have gotten militant in finding the most efficient workflow that is the most effective for marketing.  Repurposing is the key to that workflow.

Whenever you create a short-form video, you should be using it on all social media platforms.  To optimize that short-form video on each platform, ensure that you include text over the video by using keywords to let the viewer know what they are going to see or learn. Just like Pinterest, the other platforms use that text to know who to serve up your content to.

Also, change the caption to be platform specific.  For instance, you don’t want to have “the link’s in my bio” on TikTok right? So adjust the text for the specific platform.

Summary

I hope that I encouraged you to start using idea pins in a rotation of pins that you use on Pinterest weekly.  You’ll find success by sharing the complete picture, making a splash with video, paying attention to the details, speaking to your peeps, DIYing your way to success, performing quality control, and repurposing to save time!

As always, go out there and take action on what you learned here today because just getting educated is only half the picture – to succeed in business it’s about taking action and applying what you learned. If you’d like some help, let me know!
